Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Where the House Falls Apart Again

January 24, 2007, 12:39 am

Poor Nelson.  I don’t know if he’s just that special, or the house don’t like him.  He was back in TO the whole weekend, trying to get better, and only went back to Waterloo Monday night.  Goes to bed.  Guess what happens?  The vent over his head started leaking again.  This time at 4 in the morning.  The new shut-off valve was fine all of last week, plus weekend, Monday, but as soon as Nelson goes back under there, it bursts.

Though now that I think about it, it might because he did come back.  The valve needed more insullation.  When Nelson was gone, the basement was freezing, so the temp diff between the space around the pipes and the house isn’t that big.  But I think as soon as he got back, he cranked up his personal heater, which was bad for the pipes.  Only they really should not be this tempermental!

Good news is that the people who repaired it last time has a one year waranty on their work, and so two of them came this time to replace the valve.  Again.  Though we were a bit annoyed that even though we called them at 4 am, we thought we got ourselves a first-thing-in-the-morning appointment.  Instead, they called us a bit after 8 (when they open), and said that our original repair guy got sent somewhere else already, and if we can wait till 10-12.  Just cause we didn’t say it was an emergency, we sort of expected them to come early so we can, I dunno, go to work?  Though I suspect that paying customers get priority.

I ended up getting to work almost at noon anyways because I needed to get my ears cleaned, as they blocked the night before and the lack of air flow was getting to me.  Since I was out of luck for the UW clinic, I tried the walk-in one at University Plaza, creatively called, “The Doctor’s Office”.  The receptionist lady was calling people and telling them it’s “The Doctor’s Office” calling, and for once, it’s really the name of the place.  There’s not much of a lineup, being midmorning on a weekday, and for simple procedures where you know what you needed, I guess it’s not too bad.  I figured that’s almost all I need from doctors anyways, so I can procastinate on getting a family doctor in Waterloo some more.

So in conclusion, my morning sucked.

Huh, wow, I always have to wait at least an hour at that clinic!

How “no luck” with the UW clinic?  They had a long line, or wouldn’t let you in?  Message me & tell me, I want to know .. I’ve had stuff I want to see a doc for, but the clinic is such a long wait usually ..

Ha, unfortunately, Rachelle informs us that the Ontario Doctor’s listing of doctors is out of date, and the two doctors who said they are accepting new patients, really aren’t.

The UW clinic said that they will only take alumni up to a year after their graduate.  If you are curious, you can call them to make an appointment, and see if they reject you.

As for the walk-in clinic, the wait wasn’t too bad when I was there.  I think I’ve waited as long at the UW clinic, even though I had an appointment.
