Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Where Did Summer Go?

September 04, 2006, 3:09 am

I’m typing this in long sleeves, and my feet are cold. How did it suddenly become fall? And how did I squander away the whole summer?? I don’t remember much, maybe the moving I guess. Otherwise I didn’t think I spend too much time outside enjoying the weather. Somehow I managed to tan. Must mean I saw the sun sometime at least…

So the last long weekend of the summer wasn’t that exciting. Went to the Ex on Saturday for KD’s birthday. It was wet and rainy. I haven’t been in years, and I guess it wasn’t really what I remembered. I thought there being more midway games, and sun. Now, there’s a lot of shopping. Didn’t find anything particularly useful, as most of the booth sold cheap stuff, especially in the international culture section or whatever. I was sort of annoyed at how all the Peru or whatever booths had live bands, but weren’t selling their flute instruments! Watching product demo’s were mildly interesting. I wonder how many of those products actually worked as presented.

Some of the shows were better than I expected, namely, the skating Imaginaire show was pretty nicely done. I would have appreciated it more if I wasn’t freezing in my wet clothes. We also wanted to watch this other “gymnastics” show for 19+, but we got there 15 min late and they won’t let us in. Humph. We didn’t have time to check out all the buildings though. There were quite a few of them, with most of them being retail booths. I guess the Ex really is one big shopping event. Not sure if I want to go next year..

Culture Shocks

A T&T Supermarket opened in Mississauga recently. I went around 6 pm on Sunday, and the place was still packed. I didn’t think there could be that many Chinese people in Sauga that want to shop for groceries at the same time. We learned why when we went to the “other” chinese grocery store afterwards and found it practically deserted.

Speaking of lots of people, Heartland was INSANE today. It seems like every long weekend has a special sale nowadays. Linens n’Things had lineups spanning the entire breadth of the storefront. The return/exchange line has an expected wait time of 30-45 min. Of course, we found nothing to buy, as we CLEARED THEM OUT months ago.. rasberry

And only in Brampton, can you find the neighbourhood kids playing “Street Cricket”.
