Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

The Latest Teeny Bopper Music

April 14, 2007, 12:59 am

I don’t really know how to describe my taste in music, it’s a bit all over the place.  But I do tend to prefer the more popular artists vs indie bands, if only cause it’s easier to download popular stuff.  I pick my music based on melody over lyrics.  It’s not often I can fully understand what the song’s about anyways.  So if I like how the song sounds, then I’ll like it, even if the lyrics are total crap.  Cause I don’t care what it means.  I mean, I like taiwanese pop, not like I can understand a single thing being said.  I also prefer male bands, with a couple of exception.  Two of them released a new album recently.

Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing

This is an interesting album, everyone is making a fuss about how shallow her songs are now.  They are so against that Girlfriend song, and saying how the message to little innocent girls is so horrible.  I’m sorry, but I thought she’s from a punk background, and people don’t typically turn to that genre for wholesome songs for their little 9-year-olds.  So sure, the rest of her album suffers from pretty shallow and simple lyrics, like not a lot of time were spent to make them deep and meaningful.  Since lyrics don’t mean much to me, I thought the whole album was catchy enough.  I can listen to the whole thing for a few more times before I get bored and move on.

It’s just too bad that I don’t think any songs stood out too much to make my “singles” list.  “Keep Holding On” from Eragon is more her older style, but that song tend to remind me of that really horrible movie.

Hilary Duff - Dignity

Ok, so I listen to Hilary Duff.  It’s a guilty pleasure.  There’s two types of music I like to listen to when I code: angry music, or really happy and cheery music.  Hilary’s stuff falls into the second category.  I occasionally put on Twins for the same reasons.  They’re just so cheery, good for blood pressure.

I guess Hilary Duff is what you feed little girls, but I find the themes between Hilary and Avril’s songs pretty similar.  But I guess it’s okay, to tell a guy she’s over him and will never go back to him, but bad to steal someone else’s guy.  Like it’s good when a girl is strong enough to overcome heartbreak and to move on.  But it’s BAD for the girl to be aggressor.

I find Hilary’s album more catchy overall though, mostly likely because there’s more variety.  But every time I hear that Dignity song, I keep thinking she’s talking to Lindsay Lohan (Urgh, I hated *her* album).

I don’t think anything of hers made it to my “singles” list this time either.  As reference, David Usher’s “The Music” and “Ugly is Beautiful” were the latest editions to that list.

I guess “Play with Fire” is the latest single from that album.  There’s a part that reminded me of Tatu… Hmm they were fun, wonder what happened to them..

edit: ok, I just saw the “With Love” video, and dude, that’s not wholesome girly fun.  I don’t envy parents the task of finding music for their kids.  Sure, back when the artists were 16, they were kiddy friendly, but people do grow up…
