Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

The House Saga - Chapter 4

April 10, 2007, 11:45 pm

The somewhat amusing chain of problems we’ve encountered with the house is getting saga worthy.  Hence I will declare it as such.  Onto the next chapter.

Episode 4: The Furnace

I spent most of Sunday night being cold.  It all started at home in Brampton, when near the end of my shower, all the hot water disappeared without any warning.  Apparently all used up by my brother’s shower and my aunt’s dishwashing.  Left with condition in my hair, I had no choice but to finish up using just cold water.  It wasn’t even lukewarm, just not freezing numb.

When we got back to Waterloo, the house was cold because we left the temperature at 17 degrees over the weekend.  When we turn it back up, the furnance started making funny noises.  Then it stopped emitting warm air.  And lights started going off.  So Mike turned it off totally.  It was about -2 degrees outside that night…

Early the next morning, Mike took the furance apart.  I was hiding in the warmth of the bed when he came upstairs with the fan in his hands, demanding a photo.  Here it is:

That's the fan for the furance you say?

So after a few hours, he did manage to “fix” the problem and even put everything back together.  He did this again when we got home from work.

The fan is still making the occasional funny noises, and might die on us soon.  But at least we have heat for now.  And saved over a hundred bucks in service calls.

Hopefully the house won’t explode.

ARGH… stupid word verification (it said I typed wrong, went back, everything gone, had to retype)

My furnace guy is decent, even comes on weekends, if you need him let me know

I guess I’ve been “luckier”. Kitchener was relatively “minor”, Toronto is good thus far (knock on wood), so I would call your experience a sauga too smile

I wonder if that’s something I can configure, so it won’t clear the form.  To be honest I haven’t really looked too much into these add-ons.  Just copy-paste the sample code and left it.

Ha, I’m sure the furnace guy would make more money coming on weekends!  Decent means doing a check-up for free!  rasberry

The house is definately challenging us…
