Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…
A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles. I wanna play!
Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places. 2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.
A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…
An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies. I smell a lawsuit.
Will trade beer for Crumpler bags. Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…
I decided to go on a little bike ride after work today in a sad attempt to prepare myself for the Ride for Heart event on Sunday morning. For those unfamiliar with this event, this is the annual thing where part of the Gardiner Expressway and DVP is closed all morning so people can bike on it. For charity. Of course. I was aware of this event since last year, when I sponsored someone (and I’ve been getting spam from the Heart and Stroke foundation ever since). At the time, I thought it would be interesting to do (and sounds easier than the CN Tower climb), and in typical Maggie fashion, forgot about it until like two days ago. That was when the same person asked if I want to join her team.
Now this weekend is a busy one. First, there’s Mike’s birthday on the 3rd, the Crumpler Beer for Bag event, and the ROM Crystal opening. Not to mention the biking thing starts really, really early on Sunday morning. Yet I was still tempted. Oh what to do?
Crumpler - too much work to carry that much beer around downtown. Would have to buy beer beforehand, drive it downtown, get stick in traffic, and find expensive parking. Sad, as the bean bag looks soo fun.
ROM Opening - apparently you have to get tickets to gain entry, which you can pick up (2 per person) starting at noon on Sat on a first come first served basis. Hmm, so how many tickets are there?? Some of my friends are planning on lining up starting at 9:30. Since I’m still on Waterloo, that’s probably not happening. Besides, with the early biking, I don’t think I can check the place overnight, nor do I think I’ll have the energy to walk around a museum afterwards.
Mike’s Birthday - Well he got the B. Nuff said.
I remember back in grade school when I went door to door collecting pledges for jump rope for heart (ok, I did that just one year, and then stopped bothering). Now, everything can be done online with a credit card. I think I prefer this new way because it makes the process so much more convenient. And there’s less guilt-tripping, you basically spam people, and they can pledge if they want, instead of physically waving the envelope under their noses asking for money. It seems harder to say no when someone approaches you in real life. (yeah, I’m one of those suckers who donate to door-to-door kids, glad they stop doing that nowadays...) Though perhaps, the anonymity works a bit too well. I only got one pledge. (Thanks Rachelle!)
So shameless plug:

Or perhaps you’re prefer to help out the more genuine members of the elec2005 team. Whichever.
So biking around Waterloo. I think the goal for Sunday is the 50 km, but barring weather/road/physical condition, might cut it short at 25 km. We’ll see.
Anyways, biking around the area north of Waterloo is awesome. There’s a gravel path you can take from Westmount/Beringer down to the grassy area around Columbia Lake (saw a lot of BBQ happening there, not a bad place to have them I’ll say), from there, you can take the wide, nicely paved path back up Westmount to the conservation area. The area is really quite nice, teeming with wildlife. I passed by rabbits and baby geese.. And nearly running over a turtle. On the sidewalk. You know, one of those pet turtles you typically see in Chinese homes, the size of my hand. On the SIDEWALK. It was near a swamp thing, so perhaps somebody just let their pet go.
My biggest regret is not stopping and taking a photo. I was in shock. It was gone when I returned that way.
Turtles typically sun themselves on sunny days, so if there’s a log / whatever around (if it’s in an expanse of water), you’ll likely be able to see them again.
In Ottawa there was a bunch of turtles that consistently showed up along the side of the river on a log.
Good luck turtle spotting.
Yeah, I’ve seen them on rocks and logs around ponds and stuff. But this one was on the sidewalk! Passerby can step on it. Bikers can run it over. It was just weird.
