Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…
A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles. I wanna play!
Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places. 2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.
A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…
An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies. I smell a lawsuit.
Will trade beer for Crumpler bags. Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…
So I ended up going to Pico last weekend afterall. I’m glad I did, as it was a lot of fun, and the house was still standing when we got back. We left Friday night, and got back Monday night, if you would call 4am arrival times “night”. Yes, the drive was quite a bit longer than I expected, as I didn’t really calculate what it means to leave Waterloo at 7pm for an 8-9 hour drive. The broken high beams on the van also made the journey longer than expected.
We stayed at the Killington Gateway Condominiums which is about 2 miles from Pico. The place was huge, with two twin beds, one king bed, and plenty of space to put down an air mattrace. $600 USD for three nights for five people is pretty good. We were gonna bring our own food to cook as well, except we didn’t want to risk crossing the border with meat. Not like the border people checked.
The skiing itself was great. A bit cold, but not as cold as last week. Sat was a good powder day, but the snow was a bit hard for Sun and Mon. Not icy like Temblant though. The parking lot was quite full on the weekend, but the slopes were not crowded. Monday was practically deserted. We wanted to take lessons on Monday to take advantage of their weekday specials, but alas, they did not have any advanced ski instructors in that day. I was promised an advanced snowboard lesson at the counter, but ended up in a group with a young girl who’s still learning to link turns. I guess the two useful tips I did get are worth the $8 the lessons are worth.
Pico has your regular groomed runs, but also a fair number of ungroom trails. I find that I like them more, as the terrain is uneven, there’s random trees, bushes, and tall grass everywhere. It makes for a much more interesting time then just tearing down the hill. There was this one run that had the tops of evergreen trees sticking out of the top of the snow. The poor trees were being stripped bald, but I don’t feel too sorry for them after tripping over them and face planting a few times.
Highlights of the trip include Mike following someone into the trees and then realizing that he had to jump off a cliff taller than he was. He landed without hurting himself at least, and we kicked ourselves afterwards for forgetting to video tape the attempt. Then there was the incident with Krystal’s snowpants.. Somehow she managed to slit cleanly through her snowpants and the fleece pants. Not sure what happened, we suspect it was from her skis when she tried to roll over after falling (er.. after I bowled her over is more like), or from falling on branches in the glades. The Flickr set has a photo of it that is viewable for my flickr friends, otherwise, msg me if you want a direct link.
