Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…
A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles. I wanna play!
Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places. 2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.
A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…
An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies. I smell a lawsuit.
Will trade beer for Crumpler bags. Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…
Hehe, this was from way back in May for the Victoria Day long weekend. Unfortunately, the weather that weekend wasn’t the greatest, and most of the tulip fields have already died off. Maybe the best weekend to go is the second weekend, but that was Mother’s Day and so nobody stuck around Ottawa to let me know.
So it ended up being mostly a generic tour Ottawa trip, and unfortunately, it seems like Ottawa itself is pretty boring and uneventful once you have your full of museums. I think I would enjoy doing the nature stuff there though. Perhaps another time over the summer.
So a quick summary of what we did:
Carpooled to Ottawa in Rachelle’s car, arrived late to KD’s place on Friday night. Did some shopping first thing in the morning at MEC and another similar store. Went to the new War Museum

Woke up early for the Ikea breakfast, pretty much got there when it opened (at 10). Checked out some tulips at Dow’s Lake, but alas, most are dead too. But got to dressed up as a tulip at least. Not much else to do afterwards, so checked out the gift shop at the Royal Canadian Mint (got to lift a real gold bar), and then the National Art Gallery. That place has a lot of wasted space, and modern art is still strange to me. Ended the day with a dinner of poutine.

Desperately out of things to do by then. The Museum of Nature is pretty much closed for renovations, and everyone’s been to the Civilization Museum way too many times already. So we just drove around randomly, checking out some of the typical sites such as the Rideau Falls, the Prime Minister’s house, and drove around the parking lot of the Canadian Aviation Museum (it’s an okay size), before giving up and headed to Rachelle’s place to head back to Waterloo. On the way, we stopped at the Big Apple and got some pies. And we got to go inside it too, which was a nice surprised, as it was never opened when I was there before.
