Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…
A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles. I wanna play!
Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places. 2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.
A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…
An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies. I smell a lawsuit.
Will trade beer for Crumpler bags. Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…
Well last weekend’s weather was certainly a lot nicer than last weekend. Thankful that the long weekend was so warm and sunny. This weekend is good for indoor stuff. Friday was Lairon and Rachelle’s birthday party. We had thai food, bowling, then a learn-to-play mahjong session at Lairon’s place. Lairon managed to overcome her traumatic childhood memories of bowling and actually played. And she’s not bad in terms of gutter balls, but then, she was doing the slow and easy technique that most girly girls employ nowadays. There’s something less satisfying about slowly rowing the ball down the lane and watch it nudge the pins down, vs a nice powerful strike and the crack of flying pins…
Yes, so last Sunday, me and Mike decided to check out the distillery district. Apparently it was only commercialized in 2003. And here I was thinking that there was this long-time tourist attraction in Toronto that I’ve never been to, but no, it was only around for the past few years. It’s an interesting place really, targeting the artsy people. Some developers bought the “neighbourhood”, made stores out of the old buildings, and building a condo at the edge of it. We looked around the condo sales office, they had units from $200k to almost a million. I think it’s a pretty nice place for artsy people, but sadly, I don’t think most starving artist types can afford to live there. The square-footage, regardless of the price, really sucks as well. You have so little space!
The shops there are pretty interesting as well. Some high end electronic stores (this one place was stilling a 60k home theatre or something, I don’t think any of those condos have room to host a home theatre), nice coffee place that does latte art (yay!), and various things. Pretty neat to walk around on the odd summer day, but really not enough variety to need to go back often. Found Soma Chocolatemaker that Matt mentioned, thought the place was smaller than I expected. Pretty good place to find political gifts (to your boss, manager, neighbour, company secret santa...etc), and it smells really good there. I’m not that big of a chocolate fan so I wasn’t that tempted, but yes, very good smells.. I got a package of their Mayan Hot Chocolate mix, I would have liked to try a cup beforehand, but I already had my latte-caffeine hit of the day. Their ice cream was ok, but nothing really special.
I think I’ll try and go back during the summer when more things are open (or maybe it was because of Easter). But I would like to see the brewery and the crepes place!
