Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…
A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles. I wanna play!
Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places. 2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.
A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…
An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies. I smell a lawsuit.
Will trade beer for Crumpler bags. Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…
When I first heard about the Lantern
Festival, I thought it might actually be worth it to pay the extra 10-15 bucks to get a play-all-day pass for Ontario Place. I mean, you have the water park, some rides, and of course IMAX. It’s been years since I’ve been there, and maybe that was why I couldn’t remember much from it… Well I did end up going during the Caribana weekend when 680 News had their special ticket price of $6.80. I think $6.80 is the most anyone should pay for it.
The rides were very sad, even the new ones. The F/X Adventure Theatre was pretty bad. They had a couple of busted seats, and so could only fit like 20 people into the ride at a time. The animation was just horrible, sure, the seats tilts, you get water in the face, but with crappy graphics like that, nobody is going to be immersed. The O.P. Maze was boring once you get out of the dark mirrored room, which sadly, was the very first maze. The Wilderness Adventure ride was pretty good, but that haven’t changed in years. And you get more wet on the one at Wonderland.
I guess the only slightly redeeming part is the water park, and I use that term loosely. There are basically just four slides, and a big water playground. However, it being the best part of the park, everything had huge lineups. The Hydrofuge, aka “the giant toilet”, is this slide that shoots you into this large bowl, where you spin around for a bit before being dumped into a deepish pool, thus experiencing firsthand what it feels like to be flushed. I had to admit, it was pretty awesome. The first slide part is really fast, almost like freefall, and when you hit the giant bowl, you can really feel the centrifugal force (try lifting your head, it’s HARD). It’s too bad that it takes like FIVE minute per person to complete the ride, making for some pretty ridiculous wait time. Though the lineup is less since quite a number of people are scared away by the “deep” pool at the end, but for anyone who’s ever jumped into the deep end of a pool before, they will be fine.
The other slides include two fully enclosed tubes for one and two person donuts. The third slide is open, and you sit in a raft. We only got to try the two person tube, which was pretty good too, as we ran out of time, waiting in line.
Didn’t end up seeing any IMAX films, but Jerry saw all he could. I guess he got his money’s worth too.
So in conclusion, Ontario Place really is for kids. No matter how immature you are, you will prolly get bored. Unless, of course, there’s a lot of people there, and so you can bum the day away waiting in line…
I find it rather sad out of the two new music albums I’ve discovered, my two favourite songs from each are entitled, respectively:
The Fray: “Over My Head” and “How To Save a Life”,
Mobile: “Out of My Head” and “See Right Through Me”.
