Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Narnia? Bible? Huh?

December 15, 2005, 4:16 am

So watched Narnia last weekend for Matt’s bday/holiday get-together. I read the first two book of the series, “Magician’s Nephew” and “Lion, Witch..” right before, and am in the middle of “Horse and his Boy” right now. And when I was reading “Lion, Witch”, all the Christian subtext was totally lost on me. It seems that the symbolism was so obvious, I missed it. That is, I did not make the connection to the Bible because all those references are so common, and typical, I basically dismissed them as unoriginal plot devices. So sure, if you read into it, and point out all the symbols, it’s all there. But you can read it just fine without it being a religious studies project.

Yeah, so I got sidetracked while reading “Horse and his Boy” by “Memoirs of a Geisha”. I want to see the movie. It’s so contraversial. Most people are thinking why they have to use Chinese actress to play Japanese characters, are there no Hollywoodized Japanese actress around? What I did not know was that China Chinese were equally upset about why Ziyi was reduced to playing this role, as if it’s an insult. Chinese-Japanese relations are still anything but smooth it seems..

Oh oh! And I want to see Brokeback Mountain, and now King Kong (since it’s getting pretty good reviews, surprisingly). Gah, all of a sudden, all these movies I want to watch, and no time to watch them!

And laziness have reached a new low. We stayed late at work one day and decided to order takeout from Swiss Chalet, from their *online* system, no less. And when we got to the restaurant, there was designated “Curbside” parking, in which you just sit in your car, and someone will bring your order out to you, in the parking lot. Man, why can’t people just walk out of the car to pick up their meals inside, it’s so wrong!

Ski trip to Tremblant this weekend! First time on the slopes for the season! New board. New bag. New helmet. New gloves. Yay! smile
