Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

My Poor Abused Ear

March 28, 2006, 4:25 pm

So my first bout of positional vertigo was due to a blockage of earwax in my right ear, due to my excessive cleaning of it with q-tips in the few weeks preceding it. I’ve now been informed by everyone who heard my story that you should never use q-tips to clean your ears. Well I have been using them for years now, after I shower to dry them out, or when they feel particularly sticky, to no problems in the past. But I guess once it gets clogged, it will be more prone to repeating this, so I guess I’ll stop.

So yes, went to the UW Health Services to get them cleaned out with the high pressure water spray, and the vertigo slowly went away after two weeks, even though the congestion I feel in my ear didn’t quite go away. Then a mild form of the vertigo came back, followed by white, milky yucky smelling earwax, and the vertigo came back stronger. So it’s back to the doctor’s for a diagnosis of “swimmer’s ear”, ie, ear infection, as I expected. It is usually caused by excessive water trapped in the ear canal, which might have been caused by the original washing. So unfair! Used the SLC’s pharmacy for the first time ever…
