Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

My Grandma’s Wii Fit age is her actual age

July 28, 2008, 6:37 am

So we had the whole family over today for a BBQ to celebrate Gary’s birthday.  As promised, my mom brought up seven bright red lobsters and a cooler full of frozen dishes.  Our freezer is packed once more.  Sadly, I also discovered that I’m not a big fan of lobsters anymore.  Really, my favourite food to grill on the BBQ these days are eggplant and mushrooms.  Well, and rack of lamb.  We had three colours of yams today: orange, yellow, and purple.  I think I still like the orange ones the best.

I originally intended to show my mom the Wii Fit after dinner, but the light-weight that she is, she ended up passed out on the couch instead.  So I ended up letting the rest of the family play.  I should mention that my dad, aunts and uncle are about as technology-ignorant as they come.  Don’t know how to use a computer, much less play video games.  But the fit was just so natural and intuitive that they can play all the mini-games without even thinking.  I would be afraid of letting them play Wii Sports, as they will probably be the people who would throw the controller through the TV.  The balance board, however, is quite safe.  It doesn’t hurt that they are all like 5 feet and under 120 pounds (except for dad of course), so even if they jump and stomp, they won’t break it.

Of course, they weren’t very good at the games, but the fact they could all play really amazes me.

I was even more amazed that my grandma had the best centre of balance out of all of us, could not just balance on one leg but almost lasted the entire 30 seconds.  She ended up scoring the same age as my 40-something uncle.  Did I mention she’s 82?
