Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Mid-May Update

May 19, 2006, 4:23 am

Oops, slipping back to my old habit of one post every few weeks it seems. Guess nothing’s been particularly blog-worthy. The Mother’s Day weekend wasn’t as hectic as it sounds. Carpooling worked out quite nicely on Sat. Dropped off at Cass’s house in the morning, which was on the way for my parents who had their Tai Chi classes temporary moved to the community centre that’s basically across the street from her. From there, Em drove us to lunch at Sherway Gardens (which I don’t think I’ve ever been to before), then picked up by the KD Mobile on the way downtown. The Sweets Expo blew though. Tiny, and didn’t have much exhibitors. And too much sugar, which I don’t particularly like. I think I know now that unless a show takes up more than a single hall at the Toronto Convention Centre, or is not at the Ex, it’s not worth going to.

Started pottery class with the new Waterloo teacher. Much more about techniques, this guy. Prolly why he can sell his stuff for $100+. I think it’s pretty good to start off with the basics, and experiment on your own a bit like with my first teacher, and then learn more about the right technique and theory with the second guy. This way, you learn to get used to the clay first and have some fun before it’s all discipline. Though bad habits better be caught quickly.

Speaking of pottery, attended the Empty Bowls event at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery today for lunch. The event is basically a charity initiative for raising funds to feed the hungry by having local restaurant donate gourmet soup and bread, and have potters create soup bowls that ticket holders can take home with them after their meal. At $35 a ticket, I thought the bowls were nice, but the soups were disappointing. There were three hot soup and two cold soup. Two of the three hot soup were tangy/spicy, one of the cold soup is like a fruit smoothie, and the other like Greek yogurt dip. I couldn’t choose between two bowls, but Mike ended up picking one while I pick the other, so it was all good. They were both by the same person, and had similar style, so I couldn’t decided between the two. Now I don’t have to! Yay!

Victoria Weekend plan to visit Ottawa is still on, despite the crappy weather. Then busy week before moving. Packing’s been going fairly well, we have more crap than we thought… I guess you always do.
