Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

I Want Google Maps on my GPS

August 02, 2007, 2:47 am

So my former team lead is heading off to India for a year, and so we got to talking about how useful a GPS is, if they have maps of India.  He mentioned that Google Maps had really detailed maps of the city he was going to.  The last time I checked, Google maps had very little details for place outside North America.  So I was in quite a shock when I tried Hong Kong and saw this.  Such details!  All the subway stations, points of interests, hotels.  I’ve never seen maps of HK before, I figured they don’t even exist.  People there, just seem to know where everything is, or they just take the public transit.  There’s even detailed satellite images.  How the heck did they get such clear images through the smog??

So I looked to see if there’s any maps of Hong Kong supported by Garmin.  No such luck.

Oh if the iphone have a GPS receiver…

Google Maps has pictures of KW now too, I can finally see my house, Satellite images!

There are ways to download Google Map onto software, that loads into a portable device
Someone suggested it in the RFD Nokia 770 Portable PC device (Linux based portable wi-fi PDA, no phone feature)
