Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

House Hunting!

March 28, 2006, 4:02 am

So the one-year lease on our apartment is expiring in June, and so we have to decide whether we want to continue living here month-to-month, look for a new rental place, or buy as house. Typically, buying is better than renting, and spring is prime time for relocation. It all started innocently enough with Jerry. Then we got hooked by his agent, and suddenly I find myself visiting over ten places in two days. Sadly, the best was the first and the last property. Some photos can be found here.

The first place is an end-unit townhouse near the Conservation area north of Laurel Creek. There’s a giant white watertower in the back, but also means more greenspace all around. It’s also unique in that it’s basically a detached, as only the garage is touching the neighbour. It also has three bedrooms and *four* bathrooms. That’s right, more bathrooms than there are bedrooms. It has nice, large porch, the basement is finished and has huge windows. All just very quaint at $229K, a pretty good deal for that place. But it already have a conditional offer on it at the time we viewed it, so we would have to basically offer the asking price to see if the owner would be interested in going with us instead.

The last place is a custom-built bungalow near RIM Park. It’s very nice with cool trims and such, but a little too expensive for our purposes, which is to find a nice and decent place to live for a few years, and then sell. The bungalow is something that you would live forever in.

Ah choices choices. And do we really want to sink that much of our income into a house? And pay off a mortgage? Still better than renting I guess…
