Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Hopefully the Fridge will have WiFi

Apparently, having a house that is fully network is one of Mike’s dreams. Along with owning a Sharp Air Purifier, a Miele vacuum and Bosch laundry machine, I suspect. Just a little bit of a geek, that one… Anyways, when we were looking around for contractors, everyone said it would be a simple job, wouldn’t take more than an afternoon. It took the guy TWO full days, AND he was paid hourly. Which still wasn’t so bad since the second day was sort of off the record, so we paid him at a much more reasonable rate than what his company was asking for. Ended up around $500 total, plus $500 worth of equipment and tools that Mike got himself. It basically took that long because they (dude and his assistant, aka, Mike) kept running into problems, like closet walls not lining up, accidentally drilling through the phone line in the master bedroom, random mess of pipes and vents in the way… Made quite a few extra holes in my walls! And a big mess that I, of course, had to clean up afterwards.

But anyways, it’s done. Practically every room in the house is Cat 6 wired, so bring on the gigabit goodness! Oh wait, but my iMac is the only computer in the house with a network card that can support that capacity… And can you just imagine how much value this will add to our house? A big fat ZERO, cause normal people don’t need the whole house wired. They basically anoint the small bedroom as a home office, and stick their Internet modem and computer in there. Chances are, they won’t be sticking a computer into every bedroom, and a server in the basement, and Xbox with media centre in living room. Mike was very disappointed when we just couldn’t stick a drop into the kitchen too, (for his web-ready fridge I bet), as it was day 2, there were too many beams and vents in the way, and the contractor was tired.
