Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Goodbye 2007

December 28, 2007, 5:24 am

The nothing fun to do in November post extends to the rest of December too, it seems.  The only excitement this blog’s seen is being moved to another host.  It’s an annual thing, moving around from host to host so I only pay $10 a year.  I hope to stop this tradition this time around with my latest host.  It started two years ago with Dreamhost.  I liked it well enough, but I didn’t exactly challenged it by hosting static pages and as a general ftp server for sharing photo zips.  After the promotion year was up, I jumped over to Netfirms and installed Expression Engine.  I was not impressed, as half the time, my dynamic content never got served and I got a blank page.  So now I’m using NearlyFreeSpeech.NET, which is basically a pay-as-you go system.  Right now, it’s basically costing me a penny a day to host a mySQL db, and it’s been much more reliable than netfirms, and FTP is also way faster.  I might sign up for AmbitiousLemon later though, for free Rails hosting.

Nothing much planned for the holiday, now that it’s nearly over.  It’s annoying how all the public holidays fall in the middle of the week, so I have keep alternating between working and going back to Toronto.

Went snowboarding the weekend right before Christmas at Tremblant.  In general, I considered ourselves very lucky to have awesome snow conditions, and comfortable ~5 degree temperature.  Sure, it rained the last day, but just the weekend before, it was around -20 at least, plus crazy wind chill.  In good conditions (ie, not fricking cold or raining) so that everything is opened, Tremblant is quite nice.  It’s really too bad that 90% of the time, it sucks.  Also went to Mount St Louis Moonstone on Boxing Day.  Man, Ontario hills really do suck.  I think I’ll have to drive or fly every year to get my ski fix.

2007 Year in Review

Umm, this year was boring.  It involved some traveling, lots of eating, and a lot of shopping.

Mr. B.  House problems.  Caribbean cruise.  Crazy busts of physical exertion (Ride for Heart; Adirondacks).  Camping.  A wedding and a funeral.  And the big 2-5 (argh, oh noooo)!

NearlyFreeSpeech.NET sounds interesting. I know there’s another pay-per-use hosting but can’t remember the name.

It’s all good, until you have to upload files for people to download, then the usage really goes up.

I have to do my end-of-2007 post soon as well…
I get everything but the big 2-5, what is it?
