Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Fun with Toys

March 27, 2006, 5:40 am

Been pretty busy the past few weeks with work, or perhaps we’ve just gotten too lazy to cook, so it was just easier to work a bit later and then eat out. I don’t think eating out so much agrees with me. Anyways, I finally got to try out my cow-pattern stovetop cappuccino maker today, as we’ve been out of milk all week, and finally got around to doing some grocery shopping. First I was having trouble finding ground espresso (vs the whole beans), but I realize that Starbucks will ground it for you, and they even have tiny little portion for me test out. And then I found that Sobey’s carried some too.. Anyways, my first attempt at making cappuccino was a complete failure, and I burned the espresso and milk, making it a hell of a cleaning job. Second attempt was perfect, but I had to add my own froth milk as what came out of the machine was a bit too strong to me. But yay! Now I can have lattes whenever I want! Though maybe drinking a cup at 11:30 pm Sunday night isn’t the best idea…

Second bit of gadget news is that Mike installed Windows Media Centre on my xbox, so now I can watch all movies and tv shows from the server on the tv with the xbox whenever I want. I used to plug my notebook in, but am always reluctant to do so cause it’s a lot of work, and then I don’t have my computer in my room anymore. Using the xbox is much much better, as it could also handle some movies that didn’t play right on my computer, and even if it can’t handle it that well, it doesn’t crash. My xbox has a web server!! Eek, it’s like another computer now.

And yes, also changed the layout on my blog a bit, and got rid of the orange background. But now I think it’s too blue. The header picture is from Hawaii, from a beach that took us like two attempts to get to. And yes, from the very same Hawaii photo collection that I have not sorted and uploaded. Go me! I’m too lazy to change the archive over to the new layout, so you can compare and contrast by looking at the archive files. Now if only I can get myself to sit down and start coding!!

Addendum

Doh! There’s video instruction on the official Mukka Express site, I swear the link wasn’t there when I first found the product. Maybe too many people were screwing it up and returning it. Now I can load it up on my xbox and watch it in the kitchen. We found that it can download trailers from apple.com very quickly, so we were watching the latest trailers on tv over lunch. Hmm, I wonder if there’s a easy “clean cache” option on the Media Centre..
