Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

Food Review: All About Crepes

Thumbs Down

Remember how excited I was about the new crepe place that opened at Waterloo Town Square last month? I finally got around to trying it today when we passed by Uptown on our around about shopping trip today (Found the Rona in Kitchener!) Don’t think I’ll ever go back there again. I mean, for a place that only serves crepes, you would expect them actually know how to MAKE them properly. They were a rubbery, overly sweet mess. Not to mention expensive and cold. I mean, it must have taken them 15 minute to make two dessert crepes, and when it arrived, they weren’t even warm. If they weren’t made fresh, why the heck did it take so long?

My chocolate and banana crepe came with a fly stuck in the chocolate sauce, which Mike handed back to the waitress on a fork. So they let him have his much cheaper chocolate and hazelnut crepe for free, thinking that the fly came from his. Oh, and his was horribly sweet. They had white chocolate and I guess some hazelnut spread, but man, way too sweet for me. I think they even stuck extra sugar into the crepe batter. Lastly, the latte was lukewarm.

The decor was pretty modern, and the bar/cashier area looked pretty professional. It has all the makings of a good, trendy dessert place, but their menu failed miserably. Save yourself the experience and go to Symposium for dessert.

Gourmet Pizza

I only really wanted to try the crepe place, but Mike insisted on something “real” to eat beforehand, so we decided to try the pizza place next door before getting crepe. The inside was rather disappointing, looking like a fast-food Pizza Pizza chain than anything “gourmet”. The pizza choices were a little unique for a pizza joint, but nothing overly funky. I mean, while we were there, we saw people coming in asking for pepperoni pizza’s.

We got a small “Pacino”, which had tomatoes, onions, spicy sausages, roasted garlic, and green olives, on a whole-wheat crust. Surprisingly, it was pretty good. It was flavourful and non-greasy, and I especially like the thin whole-wheat crust. I wouldn’t mind going back and trying some of their vegetarian choices. Because of the thin crust though, I think one will need to eat an entire small pizza (6 slices) to fill up.
