Tidbits

  • Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…

  • A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles.  I wanna play!

  • Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places.  2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.

  • A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…

  • An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies.  I smell a lawsuit.

  • Will trade beer for Crumpler bags.  Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…

2006 In Review

January 02, 2007, 11:07 pm

I remember writing one up last year, and I had the sudden urge to read it over to see how much things have changed. But alas, the content is stuck in an MS Access file, which my mac can’t open. It seems like I go through a new webhost every year. First it was Brinkster, and then last year was Dreamhost, and now I’m on to Netfirms for 2007. I can’t bring myself to spend more than $20 USD a year on a webhost, when I have nothing to put on them that can justify the cost. So I end up bouncing from one host to another to take advantage of their new customer specials. And I still don’t have any blogging software. But I’m lazy right now, so I think I’m going to finally cave and use blog software. Looking into ExpressionEngine right now.

I also got myself a .ca domain, so please point your bookmarks to "http://www.onechopstick.ca", even though I intend to keep both .ca and .com versions. (And yes, I’ve decided to let onechopstik.com expire, and well, Brinkster have very kindly parked it for me, so I can renew it at any time later on for $99. Bastards.)

Events of 2006

2006 in general was pretty uneventful, despite its whole symbolic nature of being a full year out of school. I survived the year of the dog relatively intact, except for the bout of vertigo. The bit about “Watch out for problems involving your liver and gallbladder” is better suited for someone else.

Traveled mostly during the first half of the year, skiing with dcevents, visiting Ottawa for Tulip Festival. Slept in an ice hotel. Explored the Sichuan province of China for two weeks.

Second half of the year, I turned domestic, notably with the purchase of a townhouse in Waterloo. Besides having my bank account empty out at a faster rate than before, it’s really not that much different than renting a place.

2006 was also the year of toys: iMac computer, Macbook Pro, Canon XTi camera, GPS, Nintendo DS Lite, and Nintendo wii. (Though I suppose the last one don’t count)

Hmm, so that’s a quick recap of an entire year. Feels pretty stale. As of now, I don’t think 2007 would be very eventful either. There’s not even snow to go skiing.
