Sleepover at Ikea - Maybe this is the only way to get to the $1 early enough…
A ramen bath - Japanese spa with special baths resembling instant noodles. I wanna play!
Old age homes for dogs - 1) Old dogs don’t like to be abandoned at strange places. 2) Playing with young puppies will probably cause the older dogs to die faster due to exhaustion.
A remote-controlled pigeon - Oh the poor thing…
An article on a brilliant method of teaching grade schoolers about bats and rabies. I smell a lawsuit.
Will trade beer for Crumpler bags. Tempted by the beanbag and messenger bags…
Can’t believe how fast four weeks’ gone by. We have our final exams tomorrow morning, and leaving for our 7 week tour of Xi’an and Beijing on Sunday. Then it’s back to Canada. Sigh, I don’t feel ready to go back to work yet. I think I actually miss being in school.
I’m really surprised at how little free time I have here. I spend so much time before we left preparing things to do when I’m free, such as setting up a virtual machine for work, getting the first three seasons of Battlestar Galactica… Turns out I barely have time to check work email. This week was especially bad. Faced with the realization that this is our last week in Nanjing, Mike set out on a giant shopping spree for Chinese arts and craft. - Three-day tour to Suzhou, Zhouzhuang and Shanghai, Chinese tours are still not my favourite
- Three-day tour to Huangshan (Yellow Mountain), can’t walk normally for a few days afterwards
- Saw the Olympic torch relay through Nanjing, since they pass right in front of our hotel
So after class Monday, Mike and I decided to wander around the main Nanjing shopping district (Xinjiekou) to look for textbooks, of all things. We found an entire two story store for foreigners, and were able to pick up some CD’s and books for the series we use at…
...We had to print out our resumes and physically put them into boxes in the dank basement of Needles Hall
...We looked at job postings through a text-based terminal service called Access
...RCH was called the Submarine, and for good reason
...Mackenzie King…
So it’s Friday night, we’ve officially been here a week now. It feels short and long at the same time. Classes seem like they are still starting, and I don’t think my speaking has improved any. (Reading, however, has certainly improved as I’ve been cramming hanzi every evening) But…
It’s great to have Internet in your hotel room. When I was Hong Kong last time, it was really annoying having to use the public computers to check my emails and such. Now I can upload photos and add entries whenever I want.
We’ve been here about…
